Physical therapist Adriaan Louw's Why You Hurt: Pain Neuroscience Education System is an interactive tool that will help you engage in meaningful discussions with your patients. The system refines complex neuroscience into easily internalized metaphors, examples and images to efficiently teach your patients what pain really is and how it works.
Features:
- Over a dozen versatile education sessions cover a wide variety of patients. 120+ illustrated education cards are intuitively separated into common chronic pain topics.
- Teaching cues guide each session. Beginners can deliver the cues directly; after practice, cues function as guidelines.
- Homework promotes deep learning and empowers patients with an active role. Includes 50 reproducible homework cards; photocopy the cards or download electronic versions*.
- Pain questionnaire cards supplement education sessions or homework. 12 questions help unveil how patients conceptualize pain.
- Teaching index ensures accurate selection of session topic. It details each section's message and offers a list of associated clinical issues.
- Instructions and background of pain neuroscience education. Here's the how and why of PNE, including the impressive research behind it.
-
Each printed system also includes a link to download a digital version for use on desktop or mobile devices, ideal for facilitating interactive discussions with your patients.

Excellent educational tool
These cards are a valuable resource in treating people who are living in pain. As a PT who specializes in treating patients living with chronic pain, these professional, informative cards bring legitimacy to the PNE that I am presenting to patients.

Like Theraband for the Mind
These Why You Hurt card decks are like Gold in clinical practice. If you are looking for easy-to-use, practical tools to use in the clinic to teach your patients about pain neurobiology, this is what you need! These cards should be like TheraBand, found in every medical provider's office. They are so easy to use, and there is a script on the back so even less experienced persons will know what to say. I cannot recommend these enough.

Best cheat sheets ever!
Quickest way to find good metaphors and great illustrations for Pain Neuroscience Education, patients are not intimidated by the information, it is broken into bite sizes, and even New Grads, learning as they hit the ground running, as they are learning PNE, are able to quickly come up with understandable explanations for patients. Used daily in my clinic!

USE THIS!
I've been doing TNE with patients since 2006, and this makes the process so much easier, with faster "ah ha" moments on the patient's faces. The flashcards are an amazing facilitator of the conversation. If I'd had this years ago, I'm sure I would have saved a lot of time, effort, and pain on my part trying to figure out and draw things in the most comprehensive fashion. NI

Great clinical tool
This patient education system does an excellent job of providing clinicians with an organized, comprehensive framework to teach patients about pain and in turn, decrease their fear and catastrophization around movement and increased daily activity. It also promotes consistency between therapy colleagues in how they deliver this crucially important education to pain patients. It contains excellent images and talking points for therapists to work with. This cardbox is long overdue and I'm excited to have it as a clinical tool in our PT departments!

If you treat people in pain with TNE, you need this.
I wrote a review for the book, Therapeutic Neuroscience Education (TNE), on Amazon, entitled, "If you treat people in pain, you need this."
And I meant it. Now, if you have the book and/or have taken the TNE course, you NEED this kit. I bought it as soon as it was available on OPTP, got it last Friday, used it on Monday. I even gave my interns homework with it during our teaching shift. The assignment was to think about the next patient they will see that we are doing TNE with and figure out which section of the "Why You Hurt: Therapeutic Neuroscience Education System" best applies to them and come up with a lesson, using the system and homework for the section(s) that best apply to them. The best thing is, everything needed for this is included in the kit.
The kit is organized in sections according to the particular TNE lesson that is most appropriate for the patient. This kit is the missing link to utilizing TNE clinically. We know that pictures and metaphors are the best delivery system for this info and this kit has that, appropriate homework, and even Moseley's pain quiz. Get this, use it on Monday, help people in pain.
