Pain Neuroscience Education: Teaching People About Pain

Sku: 8748-2
Sku: 8748-2PDF

The revised 2nd edition of this clinical guide contains significant updates and new content, explaining how to teach your patients about pain and integrate pain neuroscience education into your practice.

Evidence shows that patients who better understand their pain, and what pain truly is, experience less pain, have less fear, move better, exercise more and can regain hope.

Pain Neuroscience Education is written by clinicians for clinicians, with all information presented in a way that is relevant and readily applicable to “real-world” clinical settings.

The authors deliver an evidence-based perspective on how the body and brain work together to create pain, teach how to convey this new view of pain to patients in a way that’s easily understood and internalized and demonstrate how to successfully integrate pain neuroscience education into a practice.

Covered in the book are topics such as:

  • The relationship between cognitions and pain
  • Concepts of pain neuroscience education (PNE)
  • Practical application of a PNE program
  • How to integrate PNE into movement-based practice
This textbook and clinical guide is not only the perfect way to introduce students to the evidence base and application of pain neuroscience education, but also helps clinicians productively treat chronic pain instead of just managing it.

Written by physical therapists Adriaan Louw, Emilio Puentedura, Steve Schmidt and Kory Zimney.

Illustrated. Softcover; 536 pages. Non-returnable.

Outstanding compilation of Pain Neuroscience Education material

This book is an outstanding compilation of Pain Neuroscience Education material. It includes the science and how to apply that science/knowledge into patient treatment using a biopsycosocial approach. There is value in this book for those who treat patients with chronic pain, as well as, applications in treating acute pain in a way that reduces the potential for onset of chronic pain.

Every clinician needs to read this!

This is once of the first books in this collection that I bought, and it is an absolute necessity for any practitioner who is helping patients in persistent pain. For educating the patient, for educating themselves, and getting a larger iceberg of knowledge about pain and its complexity. It is a well laid out book, and is absolutely not a chore to read! An educational tool that is a page turner!

A must read for all clinicians.

This book is the framework for the treatment and understanding of chronic pain. I highly recommend it to anyone whether you are taking the TPS certification or are just looking to expand your understanding of chronic pain.

This book has opened doors to more effective treatment

I cannot tell you how much this book has improved outcomes with my patients. I am now able to confidently explain why pain persists. When my patients understand this they exercise in the way that I ask and even my manual and other passive treatments are more effective. This book does an excellent job of teaching the teacher how to teach about pain and provides thorough, empirical evidence for the information provided. I highly recommend it for any clinician who works with the persistent pain population.

Hands down the best

This is an amazing book about pain neuroscience education. I have taken a lot of courses and read numerous book about this subject in order to teach and help my patients with chronic pain, but this book is comprehensive, readable, understandable and practical which gives you tools to help your patient. Reading about the brain itself like Norman Doidge MD will give you many a-ha moment as well as Louw and his group does in his book.
